The first time I heard Benjamin Francis Leftwich ‘s More Than Letters on my Communion Compilation record, I instantly knew the young singer/songwriter was headed for greatness. Co-founded by Ben Lovett (of Mumford & Sons), Communion Records has been well known as introducing those of us ”across the pond” to extremely talented and noteworthy up and coming folk-artists; hand picking Leftwich was another brilliant move on their part. While Leftwich has already been compared to the likes of Nick Drake, he is at the same time a unique and refreshing artist to appear on the folk-music scene.

Leftwich’s album, Last Smoke Before the Snowstorm (released this summer) has already received praise and has helped many more folk-fans realize this young musician’s talent and relatability. On September 4th, the Atlas Hands EP, Leftwich’s second single, will be available in two versions. The original Atlas Hands, which is blissfully soothing will undoubtedly secure it’s place amongst fans of folk, is also offered up as a remix by Mike Skinner (of The Streets). Skinner’s remix is stormier and layered, featuring perfectly entangled instruments, a beautiful addition of female vocals and hypnotic synths. The unnexpected pairing of Skinner and Leftwich brings together two completely different sounds that somehow compliment each other perfectly.

Truly, Leftwich is a young folk-darling that is worth giving a listen to… and you will no-doubt become addicted to his music as I have.
