Cover Artists & YouTube – Mayer Hawthorne, Cover Boy
While blog surfing recently, I came upon the news that Mayer Hawthorne, neo-soul artist extraordinaire was offering his latest album, Impressions as a free download (Album download link: http://hulkshare.com/kwrx9iephrxn). The six-song EP is a veritable feast of cover songs. From Chromeo to ELO, it doesn’t get much more eclectic than this line-up. I have a special love for ELO, so Hawthorne’s cover of “Mr. Blue Sky” is a favorite for me.
Hawthorne recorded his version of “Mr. Blue Sky” at a music festival in Dour, Belgium, but there’s definitely nothing dour about his impressive one-take performance. Check it out:

I think that other guy named Mayer ought to be watching his back, because this new Mayer is pretty great.
